| Sembcorp Marine chooses Technip for topside EPC |
| Singapore shipbuilder Sembcorp Marine has appointed French engineering firm Technip to handle engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) for the topsides of a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel it is working on. Sembmarine’s Jurong shipyard is currently working on converting a shuttle tanker into an FPSO vessel. The contract will be executed by Technip's operating centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with project completion scheduled for the second half of 2016. The Libra EWT FPSO is being converted from Teekay's shuttle tanker Navion Norvegia at Jurong shipyard. It will have a capacity of 50,000 b/d and 4 million m³ of natural gas. In early 2017, the FPSO will commence a 12-year charter with Petrobras at Libra field, off Brazil in water depth of approximately 2,500 m. Technip’s Asia Pacific president Lim Kwee Keong commented, “We are pleased to engineer the topsides of this FPSO that would be used for work on the Libra field in the ultra-deepwater section of Brazil’s Santos Basin. It demonstrates the trust of our client in Technip’s technical strength and extensive knowledge in this kind of floating platform, having delivered some of the largest FPSO units in the world.” |
