Singapore owner"s Eastern Pacific (EPS) with New Times Shipbuilding has signed a Letter of Intent to build five 208,000 deadweight tons of LNG power Newcastlemax. The new ships delivery from 2022. EPS chose a high pressure ME-GI engine designed by MAN Energy Solutions, which costs $2 million more than a standard LNG powered main engine. The LNG Newcastlemax model bulk carrier is estimated to cost about $66 million each.
July of Last year, BHP launched a tender to lease up to 14 new LNG - powered Newcastlemax bulk carriers with 210,000 deadweight tonnes for 15 years to carry iron ore from Australia to China, which would be the world"s largest LNG bulk carrier. At the end of last year, the company placed an order to build 2+3 Newcastlemax bulk carriers with 209,000 deadweight tons of LNG powered in Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS). This is the world"s first dual-fuel Newcastlemax bulk carrier construction contract.
