HHIC secures MSC container ship quartet
2015-04-25
South Korean shipyard Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC) has secured an order for four container ships from Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) to be built at its yard in Subic Bay, Philippines. The four 11,000 teu vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2017 and cost about USD80 million each. MSC plans to use these newbuildings on its north-to-south trade but needs 10 in total and will charter six more vessels. This year HHIC's Subic Bay yard has already won an 11,000 teu boxship order from Greek shipowners Costamare and three 20,600 teu vessels from French line CMA CGM. Costamare’s order is scheduled for delivery in December 2016 and it brought the total on order to seven. The CMA CGM order is expected in 2017.
