HHI wins CMA CGM ULCS order

South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has won a new order for a series of ultra large container ships from French operator CMA CGM. The six 14,000 teu vessels are to be built at Hyundai’s Ulsan facility with deliveries pencilled in from early 2017. The boxships’ main particulars are overall length of 366 m, a beam of 48.2 m, and a draft of 16m. Marseilles-headquartered CMA CGM currently have a further seven vessels on order at three different shipyards: the 18,000 teu CMA CGM Bougainville is due to be delivered next month from the Samsung shipyard; three 18,000 teu vessels chartered to CMA-CGM from CSSC HKG are being built at the Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing shipyard with deliveries scheduled for late 2015; and three 20,600 teu vessels ordered in April 2015 at the HHIC-Phil shipyard are to be delivered in the second half of 2017.
