DSME wins VLCC quartet
2015-09-04
South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has won a new order for four VLCCs from a South Korean shipowner. The 300,000 dwt ships have been ordered by Sinokor Merchant Marine with delivery due between the second quarter of 2017 and the second quarter of 2018. This latest contract brings DSME's VLCC orderbook up to 21 units, for which the other owners are Norway's Awilco (four ships), Greece's Evangelos Marinakis (two vessels), Genmar (five ships), and Angelicoussis Group (six vessels). The Sinokor units will all be fitted with MAN B&W G-type main engines with a maximum output of 44,000 bhp. They will be jointly classed by Korean Register and Bureau Veritas.
